An often overlooked aspect in getting Cloud Server service is whether or not access to shared resources like email, databases and DNS is available. Most Cloud Server companies expect you to use your own server for these most basic requirements to being online. At EPhost, these services are an available add-on called hosted services. This means your server isn't subjected to unneeded resource utilization or open to the typical security issues that come along with hosting these features. e.g. email.
What are Hosted Services?When shopping for a Cloud Server many people forget about things like where they will get email service, or databases. Our Hosted Services offering gives you access to our shared hosting systems like email, DNS management, and databases so you don’t have to host them on your own server if you don’t want to. Most Cloud Server companies don't offer any of these options for their customers. It is usually expected that you will run these services on your own server which means less system resources where/when they are needed the most. Lower Overall ExpensesAccess to our Hosted Services saves you money and typically provides a more robust service. For instance, if you don't need to host your own email then you won't have to buy email server software, an email anti-virus/anti-spam gateway, nor will you need to hire someone to fix it when it breaks or your server becomes infected. Increase Server ResourcesRAM and CPU are finite resources and can get depleted by memory intensive applications like database servers- even when not in use. If it is not 100% necessary to run these applications on your server then save the resources by taking advantage of EPhost’s Hosted Service options. If you don't need MS SQL (Port 1433) or MySQL (Port 3306), which are both popular hacker targets, then you won't have to worry about those ports. The same is true with email which is much more dangerous to self-host. Obviously, there are situations which warrant hosting your own database or email server -- but when it isn't mission critical why bother.
