Dedicated Server Configurable Options
We deploy all of our dedicated servers with Windows Server 2008 R2 which is the most advanced operating system to ever be released by Microsoft.
This release of the Windows operating system comes with some new features avaialble that can open up a new world of possabilities for your dedicated server. The most exciting of which is Hyper-V the Windows virtualizaion platform you can turn your dual-quad core dedicated server into a number of smaller virtual servers. Windows Server 2008 R2 comes in several variations each with thier specific feature limits.
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard (Hyper-V Disabled)
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard edition with Hyper-V disabled is the normal operating system configuration for our dedicated servers.
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard edition will allow up to 2 Windows servers (Host + 1 VM) to be created within the virtualization infrastructure with no additional MS Windows licensing fees.
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition will allow up to 4 Windows servers (Host + 3 VM) to be created within the virtualization infrastructure with no additional MS Windows licensing fees.
Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter
Likewise, Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter edition addtion provides for an unlimited number of Windows virtual servers without any additional MS Windows licensing.
Server Recommendations
If you are planning on implementing virtualization technology for your dedicated server we recommend either a quad core or dual-quad core server with 4GB or more of RAM.
