Managed Dedicated Server Benefits in San Diego
It is important for us to convey what The EPhost Dedicated Server Advantage means to your business and the price that you ultimately pay for a Microsoft Windows Dedicated Server.
What is the EPhost Dedicated Server Advantage?
The EPhost Dedicated Server Advantage is a unique set of enhanced features, and long-term management service, that is included with every dedicated server at EPhost. It is designed to simplify the deployment and management of your account. Our competition will sell you a dedicated server, deploy it using automated means, and tell you to "have-at-it". For some people this works, for the majority of others they soon discover that they'll end up paying their web developer way more to get it setup than any savings they gained by going with that company. This is simply because most web developers are skilled at using server software, but not necessarily at installing and configuring it. At EPhost we'll discuss your needs with you and install and configure the server software so that you can hit the ground running. For example, if you need MS SQL Server installed we generally go the extra mile and make sure that databases are stored on the correct HDD partition and even setup a database maintenance routine so that your log files don't grow too large. For some this would be a daunting task taking hours if not days to complete.
We include features for which others charge.
The EPhost Dedicated server Advantage isn't just another way of thinking. It's about the tangible services and features we include in the price, and for which most companies charge. Namely, the five biggest items that are usually forgotten when considering the TOTAL cost of a dedicated server include, firewall protection, 24x7 monitoring of your WEBSITE, daily backups, anti-virus and control panel integration. These features are all included in price of our dedicated servers. You will be startled to learn that most dedicated server providers do not provide firewall protection! How can this be? Well it's simple- it's an easy up sell. The same is true with anti-virus and daily backups. Most companies provide "Monitoring" but fail to tell you that they are only doing a PING check. This type of check only looks to see if your network card is working. It doesn't check to see if your website is actually running! Most problems have to do with the website or a service. Rarely, does a network card break. Take a guess at which type of monitoring they use to calculate their Service level Agreement and Uptime Guarantees? Lastly, most service providers charge for control panel integration because they have to pay for the licensing. We have absorbed the cost of the control panel into the price because we have found that it helps reduce support calls and lowers our expenses.
Do you have some specifics?
The best way we can describe The EPhost Dedicated Server Advantage is by example. Right now you are probably not thinking about the long term management of your account, but you should be. For our competition, when a customer moves into a dedicated server suddenly their responsibility is DIMINISHED to power, bandwidth and the actual hardware but not your website which is the most important part. They will tell you that it's YOUR server and since you have administrative access it is your responsibility. We take a different approach-- regardless of why something happened the issue still needs to be resolved. We'll work diligently with you to make sure the issue is resolved in a timely manner.
Scenario 1: "Help my website is down!"
Our Competition: "Login to YOUR server and check to see what's wrong."
EPhost Dedicated Team: "We saw that it was down and already fixed it for you. Everything should be back to normal now. We can show you how to stop this from happening again."
Scenario 2: "Help my server has a virus!"
Our Competition: "Login to YOUR server and check to see what's wrong."
EPhost Dedicated Team: "We saw you had a virus and already fixed it for you. Everything should be back to normal now. We can show you how to stop this from happening again."
Scenario 3: "Help my server has been hacked!"
Our Competition: "Login to YOUR server and check to see what's wrong."
EPhost Dedicated Team: "We saw you had been hacked and already fixed it for you. Everything should be back to normal now. We can show you how to stop this from happening again."
Dedicated Server Myths
We hope the examples above helped demonstrate the some of the vast differences between us and our competition. There are some myths that should be dispelled before you get a dedicated server.
The first myth is that large dedicated server providers magically have "something" special that makes their servers better. The fact is that most servers are from the same three manufacturers SuperMicro, HP and Dell. So the equipment is identical which means it boils down to personal service for which they can't provide.
The second myth has to do with "fantastic" claims like unlimited bandwidth. The hard truth is that you will likely never need that much bandwidth and if you use too much they will shut you down or send you a big "abuse" bill. Financially speaking, no company can afford to sell something for less than what it costs-- it's just a marketing ruse.
The third myth is that large providers have a larger support team which means better support. Right? Wrong, every dedicated server hosting company has a chain of command for dealing with support requests. Usually this means that the guys answering the phone in the middle of the night are less equipped to deal with complex issues regardless of how many there are. The highly paid Administrators, who can help you the most, are still on call.
Lastly, perhaps the biggest myth of them all has to do with companies that charge MUCH more than we do for a dedicated server. You might be inclined to think that since they charge more you HAVE to get a better level of service. The simple truth of the matter is that they just make more money from you and STILL only provide you with basic service. At EPhost we price our servers reasonably, not too low that we can't pay our bills, and not so high that you can't pay yours!
