What You Need to Know..

  • We provide as little or as much support as you need.
  • You are not penalized for having Administrative access.
  • We maintain your server's OS, anti-virus, intrusion detection and firewalling.
  • We will install common server software and provide ongoing support.
  • We will provide remote hands support and out-of-band support is available.

Administrative / Root Access

Your managed dedicated server includes Administrative access for you and your staff through Remote Desktop Protocol. You can install software and make configurations changes to the server. Optionally you can install other types of remote access software. We do ask that you work with us to maintain synchronization between your changes and the control panel system in the event your server needs to be restored.

Management Tools / Control Panel Integration

Your dedicated server will be integrated with our control panel system. The control panel system gives you the ability to perform most, if not all, administrative tasks from a browser-based online interface. Using the server in this way helps us keep a record of your changes in the event restoration is needed. The control panel system is also required for services such as DNS, full customer service and website management. We fix all control panel issues.

Managed Firewall Protection

All EPhost Dedicated Servers are firewalled by our massive Juniper firewalls. We not only restrict ports, but we also employ Deep Packet Inspection to help prevent Brute Force, SQL Injection and Cross Site Scripting attacks. It's unbelievable to think that most dedicated server providers don't include firewall protection in their base price.

Dedicated Server Backup Service

One of the most important facets to our dedicated server service is our premium backup software that we include with every dedicated server. Most companies charge for a backup service and make you pay again if you need something pulled from backups. Our backup solution will perform daily backups to our San Diego dedicated server facility and give you the ability to pull anything from backups at any time. Managed Anti-Virus and Intrusion Detection Service

To protect your server (and your business) from a variety of online threats, we've included McAfee Enterprise Anti-Virus and Intrusion Detection software. More than just a daily scan, the McAfee On-Access scanner checks all files instantly while they are being accessed for real-time protection. The software is centrally managed by McAfee's Epolicy Orchestrator to ensure compliance regular DAT updates.

Website and Server Monitoring

Not only do we monitor your dedicated server's Network Interface Cards (like everyone else), we also monitor your website's index page. Additionally, we will automatically respond to these issues, day or night, at no additional charge. We also have premium server monitoring solutions available.

Operating System Management

Your Microsoft Windows operating system is the core of your server. We will make sure that it is properly maintained. This included continuous monitoring, OS patches and security updates. We will repair any issues associated with the Operating System (and IIS web server software) which keeps it from working in the way it was intended.

We will help install and assist in debugging any of the following server software. This is not to say that we won't help with other server software when possible. Upgrades are generally considered out-of-band (see below) because of the effect they may have on your live website.

Hardware Support

All hardware issues are our responsibility and will be repaired promptly. Unlike other companies, we will work in conjunction with you to 1) move your website to a temporary environment to keep your site running, and 2) to assist in the restoration of your website once the server has been repaired. Generally we will handle all aspects of the repair, but in some cases may be considered out-of-band (e.g. when customers have not documented their changes), and/or require you or your developer's support.

Remote Hands Support

You may have the need to send us some CD's, or a removable storage device to transfer files to your server. As always we are here to serve and can act as your remote hands to the server.

Anti-Virus and Intrusion Detection Remediation

Viruses and hacks are an unfortunate risk of being online. Fortunately, we maintain firewalling hardware, anti-virus software, intrusion detection software and automatic operating system updates to try to prevent or mitigate attacks as quickly as possible. If viruses or hacks find their way on to your the server it is our policy to immediately resolve these issues to prevent infection or security holes on other servers within our network. Remediation is always considered out-of-band unless it was clearly enterprise wide or as a result of the infection of someone else's server.

Repair Hours

Server or service affecting repairs are made as late as possible to avoid downtime during critical business hours. Depending on the type of repair and it's impact this may be as early as 5:00pm PST due to the availability of administrative staff and emergency vendor support.

Out-Of-Band Support Available

We are available to you in many roles. Sometimes we work as your dedicated server provider. Sometimes we work as your consultant or temporary web developer. In any case, as the need may arise, we are available to help beyond our role as your dedicated server provider. Out-of-band support also includes support situations that cannot be resolved by normal means in a normal amount of time, whether due to situations beyond our control, or when extraordinary help is needed. In any case, out-of-band support is always available at our current hourly rate ($105.00). We never mark up this rate for emergency or after-hours out-of-band support like our competition and we always inform you if it becomes necessary.
