New IP Sets for EP1 Network
Posted by Tegan King on 13 December 2011 03:03 PM

On Monday, January 23rd at 9:00pm, we will be converting to a new set of IP addresses for the EP1 Network currently using 71.6.174.X or 71.6.175.X. This move is being made to ensure the best quality routing and networking for our valued customers. No changes will be made to IP’s on our EP2 Network (formerly Mallsoft).

* FOR MOST EPHOST CUSTOMERS YOU WILL NOT NEED TO DO ANYTHING.*

Most EPhost customers will not need to make any changes. However, if any of the situations below apply to you, please make the appropriate DNS modifications on Monday January 23rd at 9:00PM PST.

1) Your domain is not pointed to EPhost, but rather to a 3rd party DNS (name) server.
2) You have your own vanity/private name servers.
3) You are using an IP address that starts with, 71.6.X.X in your website code instead of 192.168.X.X.

If any of the situations above apply to you, please contact us immediately by replying to this email.

New IP Sets:

We will be moving the entire 71.6.174.X and 71.6.175.X networks to the new IP set on a 1:1 basis.

71.6.174.X -> 64.87.22.X
71.6.175.X -> 64.87.23.X

For example, if your IP address is 71.6.174.100 then it will now be 64.87.22.100. If your IP address is 71.6.175.44 it will now be 64.87.23.44.

How can I be sure no action is necessary?

First, check with your web developer and make sure your website code does not contain an IP address that starts with "71.6.X.X". e.g. 71.6.174.132. We suggest you do not use an outside IP address in your code, but rather a domain name or internal IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.xxx or 192.168.3.xxx) whenever possible.

Second, see if your domain is pointed to EPhost. If your name server matches then no action is necessary. If your nameserver DOES NOT match one of the sets below, you (or your IT person) will need to make the appropriate changes.

1) Visit: http://www.whois.sc
2) Enter your domain name in the search box and click "Look Up".
3) Under "Registry Data" look for "Name Server".
4) The "Name Server" should list one of the following.

ns1.ephost.com
ns2.ephost.com

dns1.ephost.com
dns2.ephost.com

dns1.websitecontrols.com
dns2.websitecontrols.com

ns1.websitecontrols.com
ns2.websitecontrols.com

If any of the situations above apply to you, please contact support@ephost.com.

Why are we making this change and why is a new IP necessary?

We are making this upgrade to improve networking performance and protection.

Why 9pm PST on a Monday January 23rdh?

We have customers in 22 countries, so no time is a good time. However, we selected a time that typically ideal for the majority of our users and so that certain staff members were available. This time cannot be changed. Additionally, based on our experience, it is beneficial to begin and end on a work day as potential problems can be identified faster.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your developer or send an email to support@ephost.com

Kind Regards,

EPhost Administrative Team
