Server Upgrade Clarification
Posted by Joe Rebis (Import) on 07 May 2009 12:33 PM
1) The servers that are being upgraded are shared web hosting servers. These servers are used to host customer websites on our shared web hosting program. If you have the Personal, Professional, Business or Corporate plans-- you are on a shared web hosting plan.

2) Dedicated server customers use completely different web servers and are NOT affected in any way during the upgrade. Likewise, other services like email, statistics, DNS, MS SQL, and MySQL also reside on completely different services and as such are NOT affected in any way during the upgrade.

3) If you have more than one website, it is likely they are on different shared web hosting servers and will be upgraded at different times as announced by email and in the support section of our website.
4) Lastly, to determine which server hosts your website, please follow these steps to view the web server ID. The Web Server ID corresponds to a specific shared hosting server (e.g. EP16). If that server was announced as being upgraded, then that domain's website will be upgraded. Please repeat the process for your other domains if you host multiple websites. See number 3 above.

• Login to the control panel.
• Check on Domains.
• Click on the domain name in question.
• Click Website Settings
• View Web Server ID. e.g. EP16
• Repeat Steps for other domains.

5) FTP access is unavailable overnight while we upgrade a particular shared web server. This means you will not be able to upload or download files from your website during the upgrade window if your website is located on that server. See number 4 above. We do this to make sure that files do not change as they are being copied to the new server.

EP12 Server Upgrade Tonight
Posted by Joe Rebis (Import) on 28 April 2009 12:33 PM
Most customers will not be affected as they reside on other servers. No downtime is expected during the upgrade. No IP changes will be necessary. We will inform you when the upgrade is complete.

We understand this is an inconvenience as many new customers are on that server. We felt it was important to make this upgrade quickly to "put our best foot forward" when adding new customers. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. We highly suggest you refrain from making any file changes through your website's back-end interface. e.g. DNN after 6:00pm PST (9:00pm EST).

If you have recently added a domain name to the control panel, it's likely to be on EP12. To determine if FTP will be unavailable for your website please login to the control panel and visit the Website Settings icon under your domain. On that screen refer to the web server ID.

This upgrade will be the first of many as we begin to move our shared web hosting customers to new hardware for increased performance.

If you have any questions, please email the Support Department.

Dedicated Server Notice
Posted by Joe Rebis (Import) on 24 April 2009 02:33 PM

Backup Disk Space:
Your backup disk space is the space consumed when we store copies of your website files on our backup servers for redundancy and protection. We have not been monitoring your backup disk space usage for some time. This was in-part due to a lack of available reporting, and the replacement of our backup server software. Now that both have been achieved we will begin monitoring the backup disk space usage and charging for over usage again starting June 1st. Most customers are under the standard allocation and will not see a change in their pricing.
Your server service includes 10GB of free backup disk space included for each server you have with us. On May 15th, we'll calculate the average of your backup disk space usage for the past 30 days and issue a supplemental invoice due on June 1st if you are over your backup disk space allotment. This process will be repeated monthly. Our current "ala cart" backup disk space pricing is $2.00 per 1 GB over your allocated 10GB or you can purchase a tiered package. Tiered pricing can be found here: http://www.ephost.com/dedicatedservers/configuration.html
Pleased note, since our backup software features a 50-70% compression ratio you are only charged for the compressed amount. E.g. 1024MB Uncompressed = Approximately 282MB Compressed. Compression varies based on the file type. You can use the backup server software from the desktop of your server to limit disk space usage as needed. The new backup software, already installed and backing up files on your server, offers excellent flexibility. It features, deleted file history (file retention) and file versioning (changed files) which can also be configured to reduce storage size.
Please contact support@ephost.com for additional instructions, or for a current reading of your usage.

Microsoft Licensing (SPLA):
Due to rising credit card processing expenses, administrative handling and changing Microsoft SPLA pricing, we will be passing through a 15% SPLA licensing price increase starting June 1st. This only applies to customers who are currently purchasing licensing through us, on a monthly basis, for products such as MS SQL Server.
Please note, this does NOT apply to you if you are using our shared MS SQL server. It only applies to customers who have purchased specific Microsoft licensing from us on a monthly basis.

Power Surcharge:
An unfortunate reality affecting all of us is that energy prices are on the rise. With these increases, San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE) has increased our electrical rates three times in the last 12 months. These three increases were effective, 7.56% on May 1, 2008, 5.58% on September 1, 2008 and most recently a 7.75% increase effective January 1, 2009.
These San Diego Gas and Electric imposed increases represent over a 20.89% increase in our power costs and in an effort to shield our customers of these increases we have elected to absorb all of these increases over the last 12 months.
However, in order to continue to provide you, our valued customer, with the highest level of service you have come to expect, we will pass through a 5.89% surcharge on the base price of your dedicated and colocated servers, effective June 1, 2009 which will be shown as a new line item on your June invoice. Subsequent invoices the power surcharge will be included in the base price of your server. If you have pre-paid annually or paying by PO, the increase will not take effect until your next PO or annual payment.
Although we have no control over the rates that SDGE charges us, you can be assured that we are working very hard to offer outstanding solutions for your server requirements at the lowest possible competitive rates.

Bandwidth Pricing:
We have recently updated our bandwidth pricing to a tiered model and added additional discounts for purchasing quarterly or annually. While the pricing have changed, no customers will be affected as all of our dedicated server customers are currently within their allocated bandwidth. New pricing can be found here: http://www.ephost.com/dedicatedservers/configuration.html

We look forward to continuing to service your account and are available for to answer any questions you may have.
