WooCommerce Vulnerability

We have recently been advised of a serious vulnerability in WooCommerce, a common WordPress plugin for ecommerce. A critical vulnerability was identified in WooCommerce (versions 3.3 to 5.5) and the WooCommerce Blocks feature plugin (versions 2.5 to 5.5).

They have stated they are rolling out automatic updates, but are advising that you update to 5.5.1 manually to be safe. It is not clear if these updates will happen even if you have automatic updates off for plugins- like most people do.

Shared Service Plans

On August 1st, 2021, the SmarterMail email service will become a paid service as previously announced last year, but good news you can keep your account!


Your pricing will be grandfathered in at a deeply discounted rate (50% off published prices). The new email service fee is $5 - $20 mo, depending on the size plan you have. It will show on your 08/01 invoice as "Shared Services". Your normal web hosting fees will remain the same. If you prefer, and you haven't already, you can avoid this fee and migrate DNS and email to the free service in your web hosting plan. Please see the enclosed KB article for options.

The choice is to stay on SmarterMail, where the average price is averages LESS than $1.00 per user, move to a free but simple account, or make the move to Office 365 / Microsoft 365 which charges $5.00 PER USER MINIMUM. **

The Details:

Over one year ago we upgraded your legacy hosting plan to a new modern hosting plan (Linux or Windows) that included brand NEW email service. However, most people did not want to leave the existing email services (SmarterMail). To save you the trouble, we did not move your email to that new solution. Instead, we left your email intact, and gave you one-year FREE to self-migrate to the new email service if you wanted. The existing email service (SmarterMail) will become a paid service, at a deeply discounted rate, on August 1st, 2021.

Due to storage costs associated with the increased usage of IMAP, and the support for modern email features, our expenses have increased significantly. We have found it necessary to either move you to the free email in your plan or charge for SmarterMail usage.

We have several options:

1) Do nothing and stay on SmarterMail!
2) Self-migrate to the email in your web hosting plan.
3) Have our professional services team migrate your email.
4) Have us upgrade you to Office 365 / Microsoft 365.

Location: EPhost Office, San Diego, CA 92123

Purpose: EPhost Web Administrators will be working on the EPhost Network performing Linux and Windows updates on all servers.

Window Start: 7/18/2021 - 7:00pm PST
Window End: 7/19/2021 - 12:00am PST

Service Impact: This work is expected to take approximately 4 hours and you may experience intermittent access to your website during the maintenance window.

Schedule: The window for Network Maintenance is scheduled to begin at 8:00pm and end at 12:00am. Should additional time be required, notice will be provided and the work window will be expanded.

Testing & Planning: All testing and planning being conducted during this window is part of a pre-defined checklist designed by the EPhost Web Administrator team.

Regression Planning: The EPhost Web Administrator team will be on-site managing this window. As with any Network Maintenance, while highly unlikely, there is a possibility that something unexpected may occur during the work process. Should any issues arise, all equipment will be placed back into standard operation and the work will be postponed until the issue is resolved.

Mail Server Upgrade

Location: LWDC, San Diego, CA 92123

Purpose: EPhost Web Administrators will be working on the EPhost Network performing a mail server upgrade.

Window Start: 5/21/2021 - 7:00pm PST
Window End: 5/21/2021 - 9:00pm PST

Service Impact: This work is not expected to be web service impacting, but will effect mail service intermittently during the allotted maintenance window. During this time sending email will be disabled. Delivery of email will be delayed and Email servers will retry sending again within the hour.

Testing & Planning: All testing and planning being conducted during this window is part of a pre-defined checklist designed by the EPhost Web Administrator team.

Regression Planning: The EPhost Web Administrator team will be on-site managing this window. As with any Mail Server maintenance, while highly unlikely, there is a possibility that something unexpected may occur during the work process. Should any issues arise, all equipment will be placed back into standard operation and the work will be postponed until the issue is resolved.
