Managing a Microsoft Access database:

MS Access db are a stand-alone database file. It can be moved via FTP.

Simply download the database using FTP to your local computer. You will need to have MS Access (generally it's part of MS Office) installed on your local computer to edit the database. You will need a more recent version of MS Access to open the file. e.g. 2000+

When you have completed your changes simply upload the file back to the DB sub-directory.

It is generally good practice:

  1. Rename local files before overwriting them when using FTP. e.g. mydata12-25-2005.mdb
  2. Download the files before uploading them when using FTP so you don't over write currently live DB's.
  3. Keep regular backups of your data.
