How is Licensing Handled in the Cloud? Print

Microsoft Windows OS

The base licensing for Microsoft Windows OS based Virtual Machines (VMs) is included in the hourly or monthly VM price. Only the base licensing is included and does not include additional licensing for Terminal Services (Remote Desktops or Apps), beyond the basic single user Remote Desktop administrative access necessary to operate the server, or for applications such as MS SQL Server.

If you wish to deploy a Terminal Server for mutliple Remote Desktop logins or for Remote Applications access, please contact us for licensing if you don't otherwise have your own license keys. We offer flexible monthly pricing on most Microsoft products, often on a per user basis, including the following. A "SAL" is a "Subcriber Access License" and is typically offered as a per user per month licensing fee.

Windows Users SAL
Remote Desktop SAL
MS SQL Server CPU License*
MS Office Products

Linux OS Kernels

Most of the Linux Kernals offered for VMs are considered open-source and free to use without licensing. That said, some may require licensing for which you will need to obtain directly from the appropriate vendor.

Applications & General Terms

To be as flexible as possible, and make life in the cloud easy, our VM templates may include software, OS or Applications, for which you will need to obtain licensing. For instance, MS SQL server requires licensing, but may be included on one of our VM templates. We offer Linux kernels which include Control Panel software like Plesk or WHM which will require licensing. You will need to obtain this software directly for the appropriate vendor.

Only licensing for the base install of Microsoft Windows OS is included in your VM's hourly or monthly pricing. Please DO NOT assume that licensing for anything else is included. We reserve the right to require proof of your licensing, or to otherwise charge you for the use of certain products. Our apologies, but non-compliance with this rule may result in immediate termination of your account and the removal of your VM. Please do not wait for us to police your account- contact us so that appropriate licensing can be obtained.
