Powerd On and Powered Off VM Pricing
Posted by Joe Rebis on 10 February 2012 08:02 AM

Pricing for powered-on and powered-off VMs is the same. We do not discount powered-off VMs as free or a lower cost, because once most resources (e.g. RAM and Disk Space) are allocated to a VM they cannot be reclaimed for use by other customer's VMs.

There are several ways to reduce the costs of rarely used VMs.

1) Reallocate a minimal amount of resources to the VM when powered down. This only takes a few clicks and can cut your cloud hosting bill down substantially.

2) Create a template from your VM backups and keep in storage. While storage fees are in fact higher than normal VM HDD usage, they are compressed and you are only charged for the actual usage rather than the allocated HDD size.

3) Delete unneeded backups, templates and/or turn off auto-backups. This will save unnecessary storage fees.
