Can anyone have a .ORG domain? Print

Yes, anyone can obtain a .ORG name. The name is truncated from the word organization. ORG domain names became the registry of choice for organizations dedicated to serving the public interest.

Other country specific domains, .GOV extention and .EDU domain names require extended validation. e.g. .EDU For Institutions Within the United States. To obtain an Internet name in the .edu domain, your institution must be a post secondary institution that is institutionally accredited by an agency on the U.S. Department of Education's list of Nationally Recognized Accrediting Agencies.
