Temporary URL Print

We all know the importance of testing your site after a migration to your hosting account.  More often than not we wish to do this prior to updating the domain’s DNS nameservers to EPhosts. OR maybe the case is when a new website is created, often times the domain name address will not be pointed to EPhost from the place the website domain name was registared. As such you would not be able to type it into a browser to see your website until this step had been completed.

To see your website before your domain has been pointed (prepropagation support) you could create a Temporary URL.

To create a Temporary URL on a Windows Hosting Plan:

  1. Login to your account
  2. Click the green 'Control Panel' button
  3. Click the 'Domains' icon
  4. Click on the domain name to modify
  5. Inside the Edit Domain window, Click on the link for 'Create Instant Alias'
  6. Copy the new URL

You can use the created URL to display your website until the DNS Records have been updated to point to EPhost.

To create a Temporary URL on a Linux Hosting Plan:

Linux is a bit different. Every cPanel user’s main domain is accessible via the hostname or IP of the server and their username. To find your hostname or IP AND username combination,

  1. Login to your account
  2. Click the green 'Control Panel' button
  3. on the right side of the screen in the 'General Information' is your username, write that down
  4. scroll down to the link below that and Click on 'Server Information'
  5. Look for either "Dedicated IP Address" or "Shared IP Address", write that down
  6. now go to your browser and type them in so that it follows the pattern "http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~username" and hit 'Enter'

NOTE: While this method could be used to setup a WordPress site on Linux, it would take some further configuration to make it happen. Then after the DNS gets updated, you would have to edit that information again.  So if setting up a WordPress site, it's a good practice to do it just once for the beginner, wait until the DNS records are updated.

You can use the created URL to display your website until the DNS Records have been updated to point to EPhost.
