Setting Up Microsoft ActiveSync on your iPhone or iPad Print

  • 0

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync is available as an optional add-on to your email account. Unlike the other synchronization methods, Microsoft ActiveSync uses direct push technology to sync email, calendars, and contacts to your EPhost Webmail Account. Once you have purchased and activated the Microsoft ActiveSync subscription your device will need to be configured. Please read the Microsoft ActiveSync Setup article BEFORE enabling on your device.

To set up your iPhone or iPad to access Microsoft ActiveSync, follow these steps.

  1. On your iPhone's or iPad's home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Tap Add Mail Account.
  4. Tap Microsoft Exchange. NOTE: Only one Exchange ActiveSync account can be set up at once.
  5. Complete the following required fields:
    • Email (your full email address)
    • Domain name  (everything after the @ sign)
    • Username (without @domainname.com)
    • Password
    • Description
  6. Tap Next.
  7. After a moment, you may get an warning stating that the account could not be auto-setup. Click Cancel and then the iPhone will ask for the server information. Please use mail.ephost.com NOTE: Do not include http:// when entering the server information. This is a generic domain that supports SSL.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. If you do not want to use our generic domain above and would prefer to use mail.YOUR_DOMAIN.com you will need to disable SSL. The following message will display: "Exchange account verification failed."
    • Tap Next and then tap Save. Complete step 10 of these setup instructions.
    • After step 10, edit the account you just added.
    • Tap Account Info.
    • Change "Use SSL" to "Off."
  10. The iPhone will display a list of collaboration items to sync with Exchange ActiveSync. Choose from the list and tap Done to initiate the first sync.

NOTE: if you are prompted to "delete items from your phone" when enabling contacts and calendars please only do so if you understand the remifications. Your existing contacts and calendar items would need to be in your EPhost Webmail account ALREADY. Otherwise, do not delete your local contacts and calendar items. You may get a warning about "duplicates", but it is okay. To remove the duplicates you can simply remove the Microsoft Exchange Email Account and setup again. Many phones handle the duplicates well and it may in fact be ideal. See the "Microsoft ActiveSync Setup - Read First" article first.

Your iPhone or iPad is now setup to use the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync service.
