Setting up Microsoft ActiveSync on your Blackberry Print

  • 0

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync is available as an optional add-on to your email account. Unlike the other synchronization methods, Microsoft ActiveSync uses direct push technology to sync email, calendars, and contacts to your EPhost Webmail Account. Once you have purchased and activated the Microsoft ActiveSync subscription your device will need to be configured. Please read the Microsoft ActiveSync Setup article BEFORE enabling on your device.

NOTE: Although the BlackBerry does not directly support over-the-air synchronization with Exchange ActiveSync, you can purchase AstraSync, a third-party application that enables Exchange ActiveSync functionality on the BlackBerry.

Follow these steps to install and set up AstraSync and Microsoft ActiveSync on your BlackBerry:

  1. Open the BlackBerry browser on your phone.
  2. Navigate to the AstraSync download page at http://www.astrasync.com/dwl/login.aspx and log in with the email address and password you chose when you registered at AstraSync.com.
  3. Choose the over-the-air download and install option and click Download.
  4. Click Yes to the security warning.
  5. Wait for the download to complete and AstraSync to install.
  6. Click Run to load AstraSync for the first time.
  7. Click Yes on the data modification and access security warning.
  8. Turn off desktop synchronization in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to avoid data duplication.
  9. If you have content protection enabled, exit AstraSync, turn it off and re-start AstraSync from the Downloads folder.
  10. Accept the AstraSync License Agreement
  11. AstraSync will test your device's connectivity and choose the best network connection method. You may be prompted to allow the network connections.
  12. Click Next once the connection type has been automatically selected.
  13. Complete the required email and server information:
    • In the Email Address field, type your full SmarterMail email address (i.e., example@example.com).
    • In the Server field, type mail.ephost.com.
    • In the Domain filed, type the domain (i.e., example.com).
    • In the Username field, type your full email address.
    • In the Password filed, type the password associated to your email address.
  14. Click Next.
  15. AstraSync will test the connection. Click Next.
  16. AstraSync will display a list of collaboration items to sync. Choose from the list and click Next to initiate the first sync.

NOTE: if you are prompted to "delete items from your phone" when enabling contacts and calendars please only do so if you understand the ramifications. Your existing contacts and calendar items would need to be in your EPhost Webmail account ALREADY. Otherwise, do not delete your local contacts and calendar items. You may get a warning about "duplicates", but it is okay. To remove the duplicates you can simply remove the EPhost Push Email Account and setup again. Many phones handle the duplicates well and it may in fact be ideal. See the "Microsoft ActiveSync Setup - Read First" article first.

For more information on configuring AstraSync, refer to the AstraSync Setup Guide on the AstraSync website.
